How We Treat
• Electrical Stimulation
Electric stimulation in physical therapy is a technique that uses a mild electric current to stimulate the nerves and muscles in the body. Our therapists at HTC, use Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), which uses low-frequency pulses to reduce acute and chronic pain. It can be used for various purposes, such as: Reducing pain and inflammation by blocking or altering the pain signals that travel from the injured tissues to the brain Improving blood flow and oxygen supply to the damaged tissues by dilating the blood vessels and enhancing the healing process Strengthening weak or atrophied muscles by causing them to contract in order to improve their function and co-ordination.

• Hot/Cold Packs
Hot and cold pack in physical therapy is a technique that involves applying heat and ice to an injured or painful area of the body. Depending on the type and stage of the injury, physical therapists may recommend using heat, cold, or both in an alternating manner. Heat therapy is applied to loosen up stiff muscles and increase tissue flexibility. Heat therapy can also help relax chronic pain and stiffness. Heat therapy works by dilating the blood vessels and increasing the circulation to the affected area. This brings more oxygen and nutrients to the tissues and helps remove waste products. Heat therapy can be applied using hot packs, heating pads, warm towels, or moist heat. Cold therapy can also help numb acute pain and spasms. Cold therapy works by constricting the blood vessels and decreasing the blood flow to the affected area. This reduces the amount of fluid and inflammatory chemicals that accumulate in the tissues. Cold therapy can be applied using ice packs, cold packs, frozen gel packs, or ice massage.

• Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive medical treatment that uses high-energy acoustic pulses to treat various musculoskeletal conditions. It works by delivering mechanical force to injured tissues, which stimulates the body's natural healing processes, increases blood circulation, and reduces pain. Shockwave therapy is primarily integrated into treatment plans when traditional methods like stretching and strengthening alone have failed to resolve chronic injuries. In chronic conditions (lasting 6+ months), the body's natural healing process often stalls. Shockwaves induce "micro-trauma" at the cellular level, which restarts the inflammatory response and promotes tissue regeneration. When Physical Therapists Use It: While it treats a variety of issues, PTs most commonly use it for: Stubborn Tendinopathies: Plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, and tennis elbow that have not responded to 3–6 months of standard care. Trigger Points: Relieving chronic muscle tightness and localized "knots" that restrict movement. Bone Stress: Accelerating the healing of stress fractures or non-union fractures.

• Traction
Traction in physical therapy is a technique that involves applying a stretching force to the spine to relieve pressure on the affected vertebral discs that are causing pain. Traction can be performed manually or mechanically, depending on the needs. It can help treat various spinal conditions, such as herniated discs, sciatica, degenerative disc disease, pinched nerves, and more . Traction in physical therapy is useful method because it can provide the following benefits: - Reducing inflammation and swelling in the spinal tissues - Enhancing the healing process and tissue repair Relieving pain and muscle spasms - Increasing the intervertebral space and the size of the spinal canal - Decompressing the nerve roots and the spinal cord - Restoring the normal alignment and mobility of the spine - Preventing further damage and complications.

• Ultrasound
Ultrasound in physical therapy is a treatment that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce deep heating and improve blood flow in targeted areas of the body. The heating effect of the ultrasound helps to relax muscles and reduce swelling. An Ultrasound helps break down scar tissue, stimulate cell activity, and enhance tissue repair. Ultrasound therapy has been used in physical therapy for decades as a way to reduce pain and speed up the healing process.
